  1. Turn off power:
    • Locate correct circuit breaker
    • Turn off power to switch
    • Test lights to confirm power is off
  2. Remove old switch:
    • Remove wall plate
    • Test with voltage tester
    • Unscrew switch from box
    • Pull switch out carefully
  3. Note wire connections:
    • Take photo of wire placement
    • Label wires if needed
    • Identify ground wire (usually green/bare copper)
  4. Remove and connect wires:
    • Disconnect wires from old switch
    • Strip new wire ends if needed
    • Connect to new switch in same pattern
    • Ensure tight connections
  5. Complete installation:
    • Fold wires neatly into box
    • Secure switch to box
    • Attach wall plate
    • Turn power back on
